It is a square block that you wet and create a lather to apply to your beard. I do this in the shower and work it in vigorously. I let it work in for a bit. It's got an interesting scent that is strong but far from overwhelming - very masculine. Rinse off, get out of the shower, and I dry out the beard before applying oil (or whatever conditioner you prefer). I recommend a good brush to work the treatment through your hair and shape your beard....and then you are done for the day! The hair stays clean for a decent length of time and is very manageable. Overall great quality soap. I've been using it regularly for a month now and I still have a lot of bar left. I expect it will last for at least another couple of months., if not more. A small price to pay for a more manageable, softer, and healthier beard.

I am washing my hair with soap, and after soap, I rinse with citric acid. After using this product, I tried it without rinsing with citric acid. Soap + citric acid rinsing also reduced hair loss, but this soap does not rinse with citric acid, so my hair doesn't fall out any more!! If you don't use citric acid, your hair is stiff, but now the stiffness doesn't seem to be that great. I have long hair, but men don't need shampoo and conditioner if they only use this soap. You can use it for a shower, but the soap is too expensive; I use it sparingly when I wash my hair
